1 pint cornmeal (pure)
1 teaspoon of salt
3/4 pint of buttermilk or plain milk
3/4 teaspoon soda
1 large spoon of shortening or bacon grease
Mix cornmeal with milk, eggs, salt, and dissolved baking soda. Then add melted shortening to mixture. Pour it everything in a well-greased iron skillet and bake in a already hot oven til golden brown Charlie’s cornbread. The oven needs to be turn on 350 – 400 degrees and time preparation is 35 – 40 minutes.
If you want cracklin bread, add a fistful of cracklins.
Now, if you want a cornbread that’s extra crusty, then you need to heat your well-greased skillet on the top of the stove until it’s sizzlin hot. Then just pour the batter and pop it in the oven. Just make sure you remember that this cuts down on the baking time by ten minutes or more. – Uncle Charlie
